Dr. Amy’s Reflections on 2014

New year 2015As 2014 draws to a close, I find myself thinking about the year and the journey it has been. It has been one year since launching Baby Pibu™, which makes it one of my busiest years ever. I have been working at my dermatology practice, running Baby Pibu™, and of course, being a mommy. I am trying to take a moment and pause – to stop and smell the roses – before another year begins and another year filled with happiness, sadness, frustration, disappointment, and humbleness sets in.  So here are my reflections on 2014.

While taking a moment to pause, I remind myself that family comes first. My children are at such cute and precious ages (3 and 5 years old), and my husband John makes my multi-tasking ability a reality. After family, I have to look for that daily passion in work and personal interests as fuel to keep me going. I truly believe that life is short, and I want to make so much of it while I am here! I want to do a good job so I can make a difference and be a good citizen of the world. Sounds cheesy but it’s true. When students ask for my advice, I tell them to choose a profession that they love doing and have passion for. Particularly, I tell women that if they become moms one day they will need that extra passion for their work when they face leaving their children in the mornings. As weird as it may sound, I actually love going to work- and I definitely want my own children to see that in their mommy.

Baby Pibu™ would not be where it is today without the people who have made it happen. Without mentioning names, I have had family members step in and master jobs that they have never done before – just because they love me and believe in me. Amazing, isn’t it? I have unbelievable working moms (working other jobs besides mommyhood) on my team who are multi-tasking queens and who keep the drive and inspiration going for Baby Pibu™. The amazing woman who created my Baby Pibu™ design is utterly awesome in her vision for the brand and I believe did a great job. I have had young women who have joined the team just for the inspirational fun that Baby Pibu™ emits – a college student contributing over the summer and another young woman who is one of the most organized and efficient individuals I know (she gets the job done). Ahem, and there are also all of the men of Baby Pibu™ who have photographed Baby Pibu™, who have been the design leaders on many Baby Pibu™ projects, who have created the website, and who have promoted Baby Pibu™ through their amazing PR and SEO abilities. This is my shout out to say a big THANK YOU to everyone who has played a role in making the dream of Baby Pibu™ a reality.

Last, but certainly not least, I’d like to extend a big THANK YOU to our growing Baby Pibu™ supporters and fans. We wouldn’t be here every day without you. Thanks for your continued support and excitement for our products.

Here are my final thoughts. I remind myself that time is all-powerful and healing. I remind myself to be grateful for what I have and even for the basics I may take for granted: food, home, and a loving family. I remind myself to take one day at a time. I remind myself to cherish my sincere friendships – to try and nurture the ones I have and to reach out to new ones. I remind myself that working hard a little every day can amount to something bigger. I remind myself to always stay true to myself and to be forever humble.

So, as 2015 is about to begin, I both hope and pray that I can continue to be a good mother, wife, doctor, and entrepreneur, and to continue our success through diligence and hard work. Here’s to another great year at Baby Pibu™!
